The community of West Mesa is situated in Central Arizona on the Salt River, about twenty-five miles from Phoenix in Maricopa County. The region was named Mesa because the city sits on a plateau “overlooking the Valley of the Sun.” As an integral part in the Phoenix - Mesa - Scottsdale metro area, West Mesa holds a population of about 220,000. Once settled by the Hokoham Indians, West Mesa has since been transformed to a region popular for being the site for the Guinness World Record’s “Longest Leap in Monster Truck,” in 1998 and the filming location for 2002’s “Wayne’s World” and the 1989 movie, “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.” Travel through the Mesa metro areas has been facilitated by the Valley Metro transit system. The economy in the area is well-diversified and prosperous with national and regional coffee companies with outlets in the area, including Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Gloria Jean’s and Starbucks.
